Yesterday we visited the Josiah Stowell and Joseph Knight homes along the Susquehanna River. We learned lots of fascinating details, but one I liked best was Emma paddling a canoe up the river from Harmony to visit Joseph. Here's an aerial view. The Knight home is in the bottom center and the Stowell home is across the river above the bridge. The Colesville Branch, the first organized branch of the Church, met in a barn across the road from the Knight home. Hyrum Smith was the branch president.
President Nelson taught, "Good inspiration is based upon good information." In this blog, we share good information from original sources. Many Latter-day Saints still believe what the prophets have taught about the New York Cumorah. This blog discusses corroborating evidence. We support the Church's policy of neutrality regarding Book of Mormon geography and other issues. That policy promotes unity by recognizing multiple working hypotheses. We encourage all interested parties to do the same.
long ago ideas
“When we are tired, we are attacked by ideas we conquered long ago." - Friedrich Nietzsche
Long ago, Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery conquered false claims that the Book of Mormon was fiction or that it came through a stone in a hat. But these old claims have resurfaced in recent years. To conquer them again, we have to return to what Joseph and Oliver taught.
