long ago ideas

“When we are tired, we are attacked by ideas we conquered long ago." - Friedrich Nietzsche Long ago, Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery conquered false claims that the Book of Mormon was fiction or that it came through a stone in a hat. Happy Easter (in art)

Happy Easter to everyone. Easter is a wonderful time to remember what Christianity is all about.

We donated blood this week at a local Baptist church. Their wifi password is "Jesus Saves" and they had lots of artwork on their walls. I took a photo of one of their bulletin boards.

Readers here know that I spend most of my time and energy on art, so I'm sharing a few images and links for anyone interested in seeing how Easter has been portrayed through the centuries and in different settings.

On X, "it is finished" is trending.

At the end of this post, there are a couple of posts about how Western society has changed.

The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci is 526 years old, and it's had a rough history. Monks used to eat breakfast next to it, Napoleon's soldiers turned the room into a stable, and it was bombed during WWII. And somebody once added a new door that destroyed the feet of Jesus...

One of the best art directors I've ever worked with is my daughter. A few years ago she was the communications director for one of the largest churches in Atlanta. At Easter, she commissioned me to do a piece. It was to be focused on the feet of Jesus. This is the result.

Central London is now blanketed with Ramadan lights over Easter weekend. Not a single display for the 31 million Christians in England.
