Ideas conquered long ago

Long ago, Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery conquered false claims that the Book of Mormon was fiction or that it came through a stone in a hat. But in recent years certain LDS scholars have resurfaced the false claims. To conquer them again, we have to return to what Joseph and Oliver taught.

Oliver Cowdery watching Informed Saints

Our "Informed Saints" are awesome people, smart and well educated. We seek to understand their perspectives with no interest in changing their minds. People can believe whatever they want.

In this interest of clarity, here is how our Informed Saints tell their viewers to distrust President Oliver Cowdery because his statements of fact contradict their theories about Book of Mormon geography:

"So, most infamously he [President Cowdery] gets he just totally botches the first vision, right? He's narrating the first vision. Uh oh, there was all this religious excitement and you know, President Smith was, you know, our brother Joseph was worried about his soul and so he went to pray to God and then and then an angel appeared and it was in 1823.

"It's like, well, wait, hold on, wait a second, right? like he totally glosses over the father and the son and the sacred grove, that kind of stuff."

They forgot to tell their viewers that Joseph Smith himself had yet to make the First Vision public when President Cowdery wrote these essays in 1834-5 about Church history.

And the sole known account Joseph had written by that time was in his private 1832 history, where he did not mention the father and the son or other details that came later.

Instead of explaining this, our Informed Saints blame President Cowdery for not preempting Joseph Smith.

And they blame him for not incorporating the First Vision narrative that was first published in 1842.

The only reason the "Informed Saints" give for their constant effort to undermine the credibility of President Cowdery is because their interpretation of the Book of Mormon leads them to imagine a setting of the Book of Mormon that does not accommodate President Cowdery's statements of fact about Cumorah/Ramah.

All very strange...
