Ideas conquered long ago

Long ago, Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery conquered false claims that the Book of Mormon was fiction or that it came through a stone in a hat. But in recent years certain LDS scholars have resurfaced the false claims. To conquer them again, we have to return to what Joseph and Oliver taught.

Moroni called "the hill in New York" Cumorah

Our M2C friends and scholars claim that early Church members created a false tradition that the hill where Joseph found the plates was the Cumorah of Mormon 6:6, and that Joseph passively adopted this false tradition, thereby misleading Church members for decades until RLDS scholars figured out that the "real" Cumorah was in southern Mexico.

Then our M2C friends and scholars adopted the RLDS theory and enforced it with their M2C symbol.

They say Parley P. Pratt was wrong when he recorded this in his Autobiography.

"This book, which contained these things, was hid in the earth by Moroni, in a hill called by him Cumorah, which hill is now in the State of New York, near the village of Palmyra, in Ontario County."

Young "scholars"

This comment from the WSJ reminded me of the M2C citation cartel.

You may want to dispose of the stereotype of reporters [and young scholars] as irrepressible truth seekers.

We seem to hire nowadays mainly people who are unnaturally conformist and unnaturally unwilling to perceive phenomena until their milieu gives them the OK.

Markets and power

The credentialed class of the Bible:

46 Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;

(Luke 20:46)

_____

The credentialed class of today:

For years, the knowledge-making institutions—academia, media, tech—have strengthened their grip on discourse in America.

Now they're exercising their power: information is flagged, accounts are banned, dictionaries are updated in real time.

All in service of the Party.

More from Naval:

The only two ways to coordinate human societies at scale are free markets and physical power.

Any ideology rejecting free markets is just advocating for power.

Socialism, communism, and fascism all converge to the same endpoint - rule by the biggest thug.

Elections have consequences

The choice:

When you vote today, pick the leader whose supporters are most likely to pull over in a dangerous neighborhood to help you change a tire and least likely to loot your store.

_____

25 Therefore, choose you by the voice of this people, judges, that ye may be judged according to the laws which have been given you by our fathers, which are correct, and which were given them by the hand of the Lord.

26 Now it is not common that the voice of the people desireth anything contrary to that which is right; but it is common for the lesser part of the people to desire that which is not right; therefore this shall ye observe and make it your law—to do your business by the voice of the people.

27 And if the time comes that the voice of the people doth choose iniquity, then is the time that the judgments of God will come upon you; yea, then is the time he will visit you with great destruction even as he has hitherto visited this land.

(Mosiah 29:25–27)

Opportunity to learn

This tweet encapsulates my approach to life.

_____

I assume my worldview isn't accurate and I'm always looking to increase that. With this approach, why would I ever take a disagreement personally? All conflict is simply an opportunity to learn.

Problems to solve

Tomorrow is the final day of the election in the United States. Voting has been underway for several weeks in some states.

The election has been characterized by a tremendous amount of fake news and hoaxes. We'll discuss that more after the election, but for now, here is some wisdom to consider.
